german captured medium tank mk.a whippet built and painted by gaso.line starting in october 1917, the total production of 200 units of this vehicle designed by sir william tritton was carried out by foster & co. intended as a cavalry tank the whippet mk. a weighed 14 tons (max armour: 14 mm) and reached speeds in excess of 13 km/h. as it was a twin-engine tank: a pair of taylor 4cylinders, air cooled motors yielding 45hp and each moving one track, made the driving of this vehicle an uncomfortable ordeal. 84 gallons of gasoline granted a range of only 40 miles. three to four men crammed in the whippet mk. a: a tank commander, a driver and one or two machine-gunners. three to four 0.303 in. hotchkiss machine-guns with 5,400 rounds made up the armament that covered all the sectors of the tank. march 26th 1918 was the baptism of fire; the major action occurred the 8th of august 1918 in amiens: 96 whippet mk. a punched through the german lines. it was the best british tank. whippet panzer quarter kit military model gasoline tank 1/48
