german tank a7v 1918 wwidiscount 30% technical characteristicslate 1916 appeared the first british tanks. as a reaction the imperial army obtained the a7v. 100 tanks have been ordered but only 20 have been supplied by daimler-benz as of october 1917.this 30 metric tons tank was powered by two daimler-benz engines yielding 100 hp each. a road top-speed of 10 km/h could be reached. the armour's thickness ranged from 20 to 30 mm. the armament of the a7v was made up six 7.92 mm maxim machine-guns supplied with 36,000 cartridges, a flame-thrower and a 57 mm rapid-firing gun with 180 shells. up to 18 soldiers manned this vehicle.the a7v first saw action in the aisne at saint-quentin late march 1918. although superior under many aspects to its french and british opponents, a mechanical unreliability and a poor capacity to cross the trenches hindered this armoured fighting vehicle from asserting itself on the battlefield. german tank a7v 1918 wwi
